This is the recent history, to and fro
It is not totally comprehensive, because it excludes
information exchanged via phone calls. And, it probably needs further
editing, but I'm too disturbed by it all to do it just now.

Hello,
I am still having problems, and if you have your TCP/IP tools available (I
presume you have the Winternals toolset, brilliant software!!), you could
check now at what speed the files are being downloaded.
The connection is 45kbps dial-up, and I am in http://mattoid.com/data/jpegs/Odds
folder currently. This is still the download that I started many days ago
following the FP server extensions fubar.

Paul

Hello,
I wondered if there was a ball park time/date for me to expect the
completion of the http://mattoid.ca upgrade. I have phoned Support, two
days ago I believe, to say that I had finished uploading data to the
temporary URL. I presume that the new pointers, etc., have to be applied.
As for my last email regarding slow download publishing by FP for http://mattoid.com
there has been no improvement.
One thing you might check is that on my traceroute to mattoid.com (two of
which are shown here to provide comparison) there always seems to be some
hanging on unqualified dotted quads. It might be possible at your end to
find out who owns these machines and see why they are unqualified, which I
had thought was not good practice with TCP/IP. Whatever!!

Paul

Hi Paul,
Please note that you have several emails accounts, therefore, we recommend
that you setup your email accounts in your new Account Manager so you do
not lose your emails. When you are ready, we will transfer your DNS to the
new system and delete your old account.
Please let us know when you are ready to do this by reply to this email.
Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for the message. I have looked at the emails in the old set-up
and have made all corrections necessary, several of them not having been
used for some time.
So, transfer time if you please!
Oh, and the other thing is that today, early afternoon, I finished
downloading http://mattoid.com at last. It took approximately two weeks,
although not all at once, since I only have dial-up.
Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,
We tested the connection to your web server from an outside network (www.dnsstuff.com)
and we are seeing normal response times. Since you are on a dial-up
connection, your response times will fluctuate depending on the
reliability of your Internet connection with your ISP. If you are
experiencing problems, please contact your ISP to ensure they are not
experiencing any network issues. Rest assured, your website and web server
are functioning correctly on our end.

Hello,
I believe that the ProLinux downgrade/upgrade (size, cost, whatever) has
taken place, primarily because the changes I made to Outlook for my email
accounts work for the new system.
However, I cannot open FrontPage and, checking the management page, I see
that the temporary URL is still present, although I would have thought it
should by now indicate the permanent URL.
Hope you can sort this out for me.

Paul

Hello,
This is not quite a satisfactory answer: I am trying to log on (ie., open)
to
http://mattoid.ca and am using the username and password that
show as the master versions in the management pages. All it does is tell
me that there is no site available.
When I try and publish I receive an error message that no web exists. When
I ask that it create one it tells me that it is unable to open '
http://mattoid.ca ' and that it could be one of four errors, viz:
1. The web server might not have the FrontPage Server extensions
installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.
I have noticed, this morning, that the fixed URL has at last been applied,
after doing a tracert. Thank you for that.
But, as I have said above, using FrontPage to my site fails every time:
when this happened with http://mattoid.com it was shown to be a failure of
the server extensions. I do hope that this is not a repeated case. That
would necessitate another (long) download to my computer if history
repeats itself.
Please check and advise.
Regards,
Paul

Hello,
I just tested logging on with Frontpage and was successful. When you are
publishing, make sure to use the 'master' password and the username 'xxxxxxxxxxxxx'.
If this is still not working, provide us with the error message you are
getting.
Regarding the temp URL, this will always remain there in case you need to
use it. It is basically just an alias that points back to your site that
you can for trouble-shooting if you need to at any point.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Dear Paul,
I've responded to your other ticket. In there I mention about calling us
because you may have a DNS issue that maybe the source of your FrontPage
problem.

support@NetNation.com
Hello,
Firstly, I spoke with Support over the phone, after I returned home this
afternoon. We went over a few things, and found that the FP extensions
were fubared, as I expected.
Secondly, I also mentioned that I want to have a signature, a name,
attached to the emails because anonymous does not help with a reply, or to
provide a proper record.
Thirdly, no matter what I do, even when Support has informed me that the
FP extensions now work, I cannot open my http://mattoid.ca site with
FrontPage, with the correct username and password. And, please do not ask
me to check which are correct, since I know what they are in the
management system, because I put them there.
Note that the temporary URL/server is still shown in mattoid.ca management
pages, and I would ask you to compare them with mattoid.com, which are
significantly different. And not just because one is Windows and the other
is Linux, I believe.
If I sound increasingly angry at all of this, well, that is because I am.
Further, just to put this on 'paper', I mentioned to Support that I
noticed that the file structure of .com at NetNation was different if
compared to that on my own machine. Note that I had earlier installed the
latest FP Server extensions, downloaded from Microsoft, and that the
file/folder structure does not match that extant on the upgraded/changed
servers at NetNation. This, as I asked, should be researched at your end
to determine if it is a cause of the slow downloads that I had experienced
after the .com extension failure. If I could open my .ca site, then I
could delete those folders on my own machine that do not match those on
NetNation. Then, by publishing to my computer it might indicate why I
suffered the download problems before.
However, etc., etc.
Regards,
Paul
Regarding the last paragraph above:

Click it for a picture of the differences between the two. Note that the
new system added the folders secure, stats and www. The old folders
include _borders, _fpclass, _overlay, _private. I don't know if they are
significant in any way.
